After weeks of preparation, you have officially achieved your dream of becoming a podcast host. Your first batch of recorded and edited podcast episodes are ready to go. You will now need a podcast host to store your show and begin broadcasting your voice on your target audience’s smartphone apps and playlists. But before you can submit your show to the top podcast directories to build your podcast audience, you will need a host and an RSS feed.
Choosing a Host
There are many free hosting platforms, such as Anchor. But if you have a long term vision for your podcast, Libsyn is a much more sensible option. Libsyn is used by podcasts of all sizes and makes it incredibly easy to publish every episode to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, TuneInRadio, Stitcher, YouTube, etc. by just clicking publish.
Libsyn also gets access to new platforms before other podcast hosts such as Amazon Music/Audible and Pandora. If you are thinking of using Libsyn as your podcast host, Use the promo code TBW when signing up. The code will give you the rest of the current month and the entire next month for free.
Once signed up, you just need to add popular platforms such as Spotify to your publish destinations. For example, on my Libsyn account, I simply upload the MP3 file, add the episode details, and hit publish. The episode will then automatically upload to Deezer, Gaana, Google Play Music, IHeartRadio, Pandora, Radio Public, YouTube, Spotify, and Amazon Music/Audible when it is officially unveiled later this year.
Your Podcast RSS Feed
Your RSS feed is used in most podcast applications including Apple Podcasts, Overcast, BeyondPod, Pocket Casts, and others. Your RSS feed must be properly configured in order to submit to Apple Podcasts and other similar applications that rely on your RSS feed. Libsyn makes it easy for users for podcasters that do not want to worry or get bogged down with the technical aspects.
Once you have your host and your RSS Feed, it’s worth using a podcast RSS feed checker such as Cast Feed Validator or Podbase to ensure everything is in order before you begin to submit your show to any of the podcasting directories below.
