At the CES show in Las Vegas this year, EPC (Efficient Power Conversion) showcased how GaN is a core technology behind autonomous vehicles, the house of the future without power cords, the connected car, and non-invasive colonoscopies with an x-ray system within a pill.

Replacing silicon, one of the most prevalent types of semiconductor around, with a different material, Gallium Nitride, commonly abbreviated as GaN — or “eGaN,” EPCS new, improved form of GaN. Many will remember how Silicon enabled Intel to build an entire empire, but could this be displaced by GaN?

The cost of electrical power is a key driver of socioeconomic vitality, as it enables us to improve our quality of life and advance new applications and industries. Silicon has hit its physical limits and, therefore, is no longer able to stay ahead of our demand for more and more efficient power. In order to re-establish momentum, a new material is needed.

EPC is the leading provider of gallium nitride (GaN)-based power management technology and is doing more than just improving efficiency of electrical power. It is also enabling new, life-changing applications that didn’t exist five years ago. From wireless power and autonomous vehicles to high-speed mobile communications, low-cost satellites, and transformations in medical care, among many others, GaN is becoming the preferred technology for progressive companies that are eager to remain at the forefront of their industries.

This is an episode that you can expect to learn a huge amount and how it appears that the days of Silicon are numbered in this digital age where companies must disrupt or face disruption. Anyone interested in technology and where the industry is heading will love this episode.

Dr. Alex Lidow the CEO and co-founder of Efficient Power Conversion onto the show to learn What is GaN? Why GaN? and where is it heading?

From this moment forward, my three Gallium Nitride based podcast interviews with Alex Lidow will be known the GaN trilogy.

  1. Episode 180  Why Gallium Nitride Is About To Disrupt Silicon
  2. Episode 203  The LIDAR Technology Behind An X-Ray Pill
  3. Episode 237  How GaN Enables The Wireless Home
