496: Marty Puranik, CEO of Atlantic.Net Share His Tech Startup Story
Marty Puranik is the CEO of Atlantic.Net, a leading cloud hosting solutions provider. In the mid-1990s at the University of Florida, internet service was scarce. Out of frustration due to the lack of internet access around campus, Marty set out to become his own ISP. In order to pay for the internet service, Marty ran a computer repair shop out of his dorm room at the University of Florida. He wasn’t out to change the world; he just wanted internet access.
Within a year, the company had eight employees and over 2,000 customers. As the ISP business cooled off in the early 2000s amid increasing regulations and oversight, Atlantic.Net pivoted to offer colocation and data center services, later adding managed hosting, cloud, and virtualization tools. Now Atlantic.Net runs data centers in New York, London, Toronto, San Francisco, Dallas and Orlando, and is a trusted hosting and cloud services, provider.
Atlantic.Net, recently announced it has officially been validated per the Service Organization Control SSAE 18 SOC 1 and SOC 2 auditing standards. Specializing in providing service to the healthcare, e-commerce, PCI compliance and small to medium size businesses, Atlantic.Net is one of the first service providers to attain this certification.
Conducted by A-LIGN, a nationwide security and compliance solutions provider, the audit focuses Atlantic.Net’s organization system controls as a whole, as well as how well Atlantic.Net’s controls are designed in order to achieve the control objectives. Additionally, the report includes detailed descriptions of the service auditor’s tests of the operating effectiveness of the controls and the results of those tests.
“Being one of the first cloud service providers to be in audited compliance with the SSAE 18 requirements is a great achievement for us here at Atlantic.Net. This certification demonstrates the auditor’s confidence in our world class infrastructure, system controls, and our continued mission to deliver excellence to our clients,” said Marty Puranik, CEO of Atlantic.Net. “Authenticating these processes to ensure our clients are provided with consistent, high quality deliverables is of the utmost importance to us, as we continue to effectively service their cloud environments.”
As founder, president, and CEO of Atlantic.Net, Marty’s strengths as a leader and visionary have helped him lead a successful business for over two decades. Atlantic.Net thrives thanks to Marty’s strategic acumen, technical prowess, and his valuable, old-fashioned habits of thrift, modesty, and discipline.
